The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Borno State, Samuel Madaki on Friday, March 27, 2015 announced that the presidential and National Assembly elections to be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015 would be conducted in only 8 out of 27 local government areas of the state which were safe enough for the exercise.
Speaking to newsmen as regards preparedness for the pols, Madaki said the commission had classified the state into three zones based on safety, safe, unsafe (high risk) and relatively safe.
He revealed that the high risk areas were 12 , the relatively safe were 10 and those that are safe enough were five, stating that elections will be held in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC), Jere, Magumeri, Bayo, Kwaya-Kusar, Hawul, Shani, Damboa and Gubio local government areas.
As for displaced persons in the state, Madaki said: “There are 70, 485 displaced persons who are registered voters from 16 local governments at IDPs camps in Maiduguri. We’ve made adequate arrangement for them to vote. The security agencies will be providing security for them”.
Madaki also announced that the commission had engaged 25,125 ad-hoc staff in the 312 wards and at 3928 polling units, with 300 registered observers.
