Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Committee, Professor Attahiru Jega, on Saturday, March 7, 2015 held a closed door meeting with the National Peace Committee for 2015 General Elections directed at achieving a hitch free electioneering process.
The meeting, which was chaired by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar also had in attendance service chiefs including the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshal Alex Badeh; the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Sa’ad Abubakar 111; Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan ; Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah; former Chief of General Staff, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe; Special Adviser to the President on Inter- Party Relations, Senator Ben Obi.
When the meeting was done, both Jega and General Abubakar refused to disclose the outcome of the meeting with journalists, although a former Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Rose Ukeje said both INEC and security chiefs reiterated their readiness to conduct the election as scheduled.
