The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 held the former Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State into custody to interrogate him severely on alleged crimes of misappropriation of funds.
he had arrived at the Wuse, Abuja office of the anti-graft commission at about 10am alongside his former commissioners.
The former governor, who handed over to his successor on Friday, May 29, 2015 after spending eight years as Ebonyi State’s Governor, was not probed while in office by the commission due to the fact that he enjoyed a constitutional immunity against prosecution.
Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC’s spokesperson disclosed that Elechi was in custody of the EFCC undergoing interrogations, but that he was not yet sure if Elechi would be detained till the next day.
