The Governors of Ekiti and Bayelsa States – Ayo Fayose and Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, have condemned the Nigerian Governors’ Forum election which held on Monday,18 May, 2015, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, which produced Governor Abdulaziz Yari as new chairman.
Both governors were among the 16 governors who neither attended nor sent a representative to the meeting.
The governors said this on Thursday, May 21, 2015 that the emergence of Yari as Chairman was faulty.
The election of Yari was also dismissed by the Bayelsa State governor, Seriake Dickson, and by the Jang faction of the Nigeria Governors Forum.
Governor Fayose said in an interview that the process of producing the new leader for the forum was wrong as it excluded the governors-elect, who would constitute the majority members of the group after their inauguration on May 29.
According to him, it was wrong for the outgoing governors to choose a new chairman, comparing it to a situation where outgoing senators would elect a Senate President for the incoming members.
“It is more sensible to allow the incoming governors to be inaugurated before such a decision can be taken. It is like the outgoing senators choosing the Senate President for the incoming senators,” the Ekiti State governor said.
