EFCC Says It Raided Home Of Former NNPC GMD And Found $9.2 Million Cash (PHOTOS)

Agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have raided the home of Andrew Yakubu, former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, on Thursday, February 8, 2017.

According to the anti-graft commission, the raid took place in a Kaduna property belonging to Yakubu, who was fired by former President Goodluck Jonathan in an “unceremonial manner”. At the time, the All Progressives Congress, APC, took offense at the president’s action against the NNPC top boss.

The agents recovered $9.2 million from Mr. Yakubu’s safe and an additional £72,000. The EFCC said it was the largest sum of cash the commission had recovered in recent weeks.

Mr. Yakubu was arraigned for corruption by the EFCC June 2016 on allegations of money laundering.

He served as GMD of NNPC from 2012 to 2014 during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Attempts to reach Mr. Yakubu for comment have not been successful.
