The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, disclosed on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 it has discovered N15 billion, in three different currencies, in an Ikoyi, Lagos residence.

According to the EFCC, acting on a tip off, by another whistle blower, the money was allegedly discovered in a house which belongs to an Abuja politician, who lives on highbrow Gerard Road, Ikoyi.

EFCC operatives reportedly stormed the house on Wednesday and discovered $38 million, N23 million, and 27,000 pounds sterling.

When contacted, EFCC spokesman in Lagos, Samin Amaddin confirmed the discovery.

Lai Mohammed, a minister of information and culture, had earlier said any whistle-blower whose information leads to the recovery of up to N1 billion would receive five per cent of the amount.

Mohammed also added that the reward for any amount between N1 billion and N5 billion would be five percent for the first N1 billion and four percent of the remaining N4 billion and any amount over N5 billion will attract 2.5 percent reward.

“What we have done by making this information public is to reassure potential whistle-blowers that the plan to reward is real. We are not just saying we will pay all whistle-blowers, but, we are letting them know in advance what they are entitled to, once the information they provide leads to the recovery of looted funds,” the minister said.

The minister also gave the assurances that government will protect the identity of all whistle-blowers, whether in the public or the private sector, and also ensure that the information they provide is kept secret.
