BENIN CITY, NIGERIA – The Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki, has announced that the state government will sponsor Aminat Yusuf’s Law School programme and place her on a salary.
Aminat recently graduated as the best law student from Lagos State University, LASU, with a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average, CGPA, of 5.0.
The governor made the disclosure through his representative, the Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq.
He stated that in addition to automatic employment, the government has approved other benefits for the outstanding student.
Governor Obaseki said, “This is an update on our daughter, Aminat Yusuf after the Government of Edo State honoured her in respect of her academic performance in LASU for graduating with a perfect CGPA of 5.00. The government offered her automatic employment, and the governor has approved other things beyond the employment.”
According to Mr. Obaseki, Aminat will be sponsored on a scholarship for one year in the Nigerian Law School.
The government will be responsible for providing all her needs until she completes the programme.
Furthermore, he stated, “The governor also approved that for every month that she will be in law school, she will receive an up-keep allowance equivalent to the salary of a State Counsel, which is almost N200,000 Naira.”
The governor emphasized that this gesture is in recognition of the remarkable achievement that Aminat Yusuf accomplished at LASU.
He expressed pride in her achievement and conveyed hopes that she will join the state’s legal service after completing her law school programme.
“We are proud of her achievement and hope she will join us after her law school programme as we will write to NYSC to ensure that she embarks on her one-year compulsory youth service in the state,” he added.
This initiative by the Edo State Government is seen as a positive step towards encouraging academic excellence and supporting talented individuals in pursuing their careers.
It also reflects the government’s commitment to education and human capital development.
