BENIN CITY, Nigeria – A grieving father in Nigeria, Samuel Adun, has offered a N100,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest of his son-in-law, identified only as Inuaghata, who is suspected of killing his pregnant wife, Osaretin.
In a heart-wrenching appeal to the public on Friday, June 9, 2023, Adun shared details about the tragic event in an interview with journalists in Benin city, the capital of Edo state.
“I hail from Orhionmwon Local Government Area. My daughter was killed by her husband. She was 23 years old,” Adun stated, battling tears.
“The incident happened at Egba on May 24, 2023. I do not understand the problem they had that led to the killing of my daughter. I was called that my daughter was killed. He used a knife to slit her throat. She was pregnant when she was killed. I want the boy arrested.”
In his desperate bid to seek justice, Adun has offered N100,000 to anyone providing information leading to Inuaghata’s arrest.
“The boy had not formally married my daughter. His parents are both dead. I have called his brother that he ran away after killing my daughter,” Adun added, painting a picture of a troubled family life.
At the time of reporting, Inuaghata remains at large.
The Edo state police are yet to officially register the case.
Chidi Nwabuzor, the spokesperson of the Edo state police command, confirmed that the matter has yet to be formally reported.
While this personal tragedy has stirred the community, it has also cast a spotlight on the broader issue of domestic violence in Nigeria, igniting debates about law enforcement’s response to such crimes and the dire need for preventive measures.
