BENIN CITY, Nigeria – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has credited his victory in the September 21 governorship election entirely to his faith in God, rejecting any reliance on prophets or native doctors.
Speaking on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Winner’s Chapel in Akho, Irrua, the governor expressed profound gratitude for what he described as a divine achievement.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo proclaimed, “No one but God could have accomplished this. This is the first time in Nigeria that someone contested and won without consulting any prophet or native doctor. My faith is in Christ alone.”
He emphasised that his victory was a testament to God’s favour, adding, “If God does not will it, then let it not be done. I did not rely on worldly strategies but trusted entirely in God, and He granted me success.”
The governor revealed that both he and his deputy are active members of Winner’s Chapel.
“While others leaned on media tactics, I leaned on God, and He delivered,” he said.
Pastor Peter Osawe, who delivered a sermon on “Wisdom Kits for Joy and Rejoicing,” reiterated that God remains the ultimate factor in every success.
“Nothing happens without God’s knowledge. We must always draw strength from Him,” Osawe said.
Commitment to Edo’s Development
Governor Okpebholo later attended a service at God’s People Worldwide Prayer Ministry in Illeh, Ekpoma, where Apostle Ehijele Unuayan commended his leadership.
The apostle praised the governor’s approval of automatic employment for First Class graduates of Edo origin, calling it a step toward progress.
In his address, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his commitment to the state.
“I am here to pray for the strength to move Edo forward, to use our resources wisely, and to ensure justice and fairness for all,” he stated.
Both services concluded with fervent prayers for the governor’s continued success.
As he begins his four-year term, Okpebholo pledged to lead Edo State with faith, integrity, and a focus on sustainable development.
