Workers of Ebonyi State College of Education, under the aegis of the Joint Action Committee of Trade Unions, have embarked on an indefinite strike, said a Punch report.
The development was made know on Saturday, April 4, 2015 via a statement signed by the Chairman, College of Education Academic Staff Union, Greg Esheya; the Chairman, Non-academic Staff Union; Chinenye Onuenyim; and the Chairman SSUCEON, Eugene Onu.
According to the workers, the strike action was prompted by the failure of the state government to pay the arrears of new salary structures.
The statement indicated the demands of the workers among which was a better condition of service, gazetting of the college employees and payment of terminal benefits to the deceased employees and those who have retired from the service of the college.
Part of the statement reads, “We are adopting this measure as a last resort, as all peaceful and friendly dispositions towards the management and government have failed to yield the desired fruit.”
