Ebola: Private Schools Request Parents To Provide Childrens’ Medical Clearance

Must read

Following the outbreak of Ebola virus in the country, the National Association of Private School Proprietors (NAPPs), Kano State branch, has directed parents to bring medical clearance of their children to school authorities on day of resumption.

This was announced by the president of the association, Dr Jibril Muhammad during a press briefing in Kano on Wednesday, September 10, 2014.

He said the decision was taken during the executive meeting of the association as part of measures to curtail the spread of the Ebola virus among pupils.

He  stated that schools have also been instructed to provide sanitisers, bucket of water and soap in every class for children to wash their hands while proprietors have been instructed not to overcrowd classrooms and to refer children to medical centres in case of any illness.

He also mentioned that the call for the extension of resumption date from September 22 would be detrimental to the education sector and the nation in general.

He urged the National Assembly against any attempt to extend the resumption date as it would not  be of any economical importance to the country.

“All private schools are expected to extend their closing time by an hour to make up for lost time.

“We are also calling on the Federal Government to redeem its pledge of providing schools with thermometers, while state governments train teachers on how to handle Ebola cases.”
