Nigeria Twitter lit up Sunday morning with most Nigerians expressing disapproval over the way President Muhammadu Buhari is using Nigeria’s secret police to destroy the nation’s democracy.
The latest citizen outcry comes following a highly inciteful press statement on Saturday, April 9, 2016 by the Department of State Security Services (DSS, also known as SSS) which claimed the pro-Biafra group, IPOB kidnapped and murdered five “Hausa-Fulani” men and buried them in mass graves in Abia State.
This claim by the DSS, which serves as Nigeria’s secret police, has been roundly condemned by a leading human rights organisation, Intersociety and denounced as false by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the pro-Biafra group that has embraced non-violence as a tool for actualising the independence of Biafra Republic from Nigeria.

IPOB says that the latest press statement by the DSS is one more step in President Buhari’s attempt to clampdown on the group by branding it a dangerous terrorist organisation.
According to majority of Nigerians who spoke up on Twitter using the hashtag #DSSUnderBuhari, the DSS is not only divisive, but follows a dangerous trend for the state security arm to toe the divisive and partisan line of President Muhammadu Buhari and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
