Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State suffered a huge embarrassment after Bishop Cyril C. Okorocha, the Anglican Bishop of Owerri Diocese outrightly rejected his N200,00 donation to the church.
The Bishop didn’t end at that, as he went ahead to lampoon Governor Okorocha for his ‘inhuman policies’ and failure to pay salaries to state workers, thereby subjecting them to suffering for many months.
The governor, represented by Mr. Obinna Aharanwa at the annual Diocesan Synod of the Anglican Communion at St John’s Anglican Church, New Owerri, donated the money in his bid to support the church’s development, but the Bishop implored the governor to pay his workers rather.
He further urged the governor to show his stewardship in the state by letting the public know how he spends the state money.
After the donation, Bishop Okorocha said: “Please take your money and return it to the government. If I take this money, Imo people will say that I have collected their pension money and worker’s salary. Go and pay pensioners and workers. I won’t touch this money.
“We want Governor Rochas Okorocha to publish his stewardship and show us what he is doing with Imo money. We need explanations.”
The Bishop’s comments irked the governor’s representative who according to reports, stormed out of the church feeling embarrassed.
