The usually idealistic and upbeat singer Bono grew quite somber when asked about Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
The U2 musician, who was in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly, sat down with “CBS This Morning” host Charlie Rose to discuss his activism and music career on Tuesday. When asked if he thought Trump could be an agent of positive change, Bono groaned and said:
“America is like the best idea the world ever came up with. But Donald Trump is potentially the worst idea that ever happened to America. Potentially. Could destroy it.”
Bono went on to say that he believed Trump has “hijacked” the Republican Partyand “the idea of America.”
