A Canadian writer, Kelly Oxford, broke Twitter on Saturday, October 8, 2016 when she called on women to tweet about their first sexual assault in the wake of the news of Donald Trump’s 2005 comments about grabbing women “by the pussy”.
Oxford keyed into the rage that followed the revelation of Trump’s aggressive sexual remarks in which he suggested that women let men sexually assault them if the men are celebrities. “They let you do anything if you were a star,” the US Republican presidential nominee said on an Access Hollywood bus.
She described the first time she was sexually assaulted at the age of 12 on a bus. Her tweet has been viewed more than 10 million times and appears like it is going to be, sadly, the most replied tweet of the year.

Women, and a few men, responded to her tweet telling their own stories about being sexually assaulted and raped. Oxford said she received replies at the rate of 50 per minute for the first 14 hours.
“Anyone denying rape culture,” she wrote, “look at my timeline now.”

Many of the stories told by women cast a picture of an epidemic of sexual abuse of minors. Also a good number of the survivors were molested by their doctor, male relatives, clergymen, and teachers which is a very sad story about the betrayal of a trust.
Here are some of the tweets:

We applaud all the women, and men, who have survived childhood sexual abuse and rape as adults for telling their stories and pray that this conversation helps to drive the right kind of change that will make the world safe for every child, boy or girl and men and women.
