LAGOS, Nigeria — Popular music producer and founder of Mavin Records, Michael Ajereh, widely known as Don Jazzy, has donated ₦100 million to support an ambitious initiative aimed at revolutionising public education in Nigeria.
The donation was made to the non-profit organisation (NGO) founded by Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), which focuses on integrating cutting-edge technology, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), into Nigeria’s public education system.
The announcement of Don Jazzy’s contribution was made public by VDM in an Instagram post on Thursday, following the official launch of his NGO on October 16, 2024.
In his post, VDM expressed deep gratitude, explaining that Don Jazzy decided to support the cause due to its focus on improving the quality of education for public school children in Nigeria.
“Let it be known that on the 16 October 2024, this man named Michael Collins Ajereh aka Don Jazzy donated 100 million to give public school kids advanced education with the aim to give them a good educational foundation,” VDM wrote.
The NGO aims to modernise Nigeria’s public education system by incorporating innovative teaching methods and AI-based technologies, creating a transformative experience for students who may otherwise not have access to such resources.
VDM emphasised that the initiative is geared toward providing a solid educational foundation for Nigeria’s youth, equipping them with the skills they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
The donation comes as part of a broader wave of support for VDM’s NGO, which raised more than ₦35 million from various sectors within 24 hours of its launch.
This financial backing reflects growing enthusiasm for the NGO’s mission to close the gap in public education by introducing modern technologies and innovative approaches to learning.
In his Instagram post, VDM also noted that despite Don Jazzy’s significant contribution, the two have only met once, briefly exchanging greetings without any extended conversation.
“I and him met once, shook hands, and that was it. We no even talk for 1 minute ooo, no be say he no my background or anything,” he explained, underscoring the music producer’s belief in the cause, rather than any personal relationship between them.
The generous donation by Don Jazzy has been widely praised on social media, with many lauding his commitment to supporting initiatives that have a meaningful impact on Nigerian society.
The music mogul is well-known for his philanthropy and his efforts to uplift underprivileged communities across the country.
As VDM’s NGO continues to gain momentum, the focus now shifts to the implementation of its ambitious goals.
The integration of AI and other advanced technologies into public schools is expected to be a game-changer for Nigeria’s education system, especially in underserved regions where access to quality education remains a significant challenge.
With substantial financial backing from figures like Don Jazzy and other supporters, VDM’s initiative could set a precedent for future educational reforms in Nigeria.
