BENIN, Nigeria – A man identified as Okhiria has been apprehended by the Edo State Police Command following a domestic dispute that led to him shooting his wife, resulting in the amputation of her left hand.
The incident took place on June 3, 2023, in the Ekae community within the New Etete area of GRA, Benin.
According to reports, the suspect allegedly argued with his wife, picked up his gun, and fired at her, with the bullet hitting her left hand.
Following the incident, the victim’s hand had to be amputated due to the severity of the injury.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident to journalists on Sunday, June 11, 2023.
He stated, “On June 3, the police received a complaint from some elders of the Ekae community with Joanki Okhiria, aged nine years, that on the same day, Joanki Okhiria’s father argued with his wife, Tina Okhiria.”
“In the process, Okhiria shot Tina with his double barrel gun on the left hand and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment. The affected hand has been amputated,” Nwabuzor added.
The PPRO further stated that the police have taken the suspect into custody and will soon charge him to court pending the conclusion of their investigation into the incident.
