As heavily reported, an 8-month-old Lab-Chow mix named Scrappy was attacked by a cat after viciously attacking a four-year-old toddler on a bike. Tara, the cat, has been a faithful friend to Jeremy Triantafilo, the toddler, since the boy was just a baby, according to his mother. She added that the cat’s courageous attempt to save her friend (Jeremy) is proof of her loyalty to him.
As a result of the attack, Jeremy had to get 10 stitches on his leg. His mother said that she was near the family’s home when the incident occurred and watched it all unfold. Here’s what happened: Scrappy, the neighbor’s dog and the dog in the surveillance footage, escaped from his home and attacked her child. He bit Jeremy’s leg and shook him. This is when Tara shot out of the home and chased after Scrappy. The toddler’s mother expressed disbelief in Tara’s courage to attack a dog for a child. She added that Tara has always been very protective of Jeremy. The loyal pet used to sleep in the crib with Jeremy (when he was a baby) every night.
Tara followed the Triantafilo family home one day in 2008. Although Jeremy’s mother is allergic to her, the family decided to keep her because she was so sweet. Tara has gotten local and national attention for her heroism. The feline even got to throw out the first pitch (with a little help from Jeremy’s father, of course) at the Bakersfield Blaze minor league baseball game.
Scrappy has been euthanized. After being taken to a shelter following the incident, he tried to bite every person that fed him or gave him water. At one point, he actually bit two staff members. After 10 days of tests and evaluations, staff members felt it was necessary to put the vicious dog down.
