Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin wrote about her decision to stand by her husband in spite of all his wanderings in Harper’s Bazaar September issue which was titled “The Good Wife,” according to Smith.
The Barna Group editor goes on to say that Abedin may have stayed with her straying husband to further her political career or simply because her Muslim faith does not agree with divorce. But we may never know the exact reasons she chose to stand by her man, she adds.
Abedin just said that her decision was made for the benefit of herself, their son and for the good of the family as a whole, continues Smith.
However, after saying that, the mayoral candidate’s wife then continued to suggest that other women should do the same as she has done. She adds that New York voters will have to make a decision whether to trust her husband or not, but she knows that the decision she made was the right one.
Smith goes on to point out that many Christian churches also proclaim the same thing as Abedin, that no matter what, a wife should stand by her husband. She adds that some churches even advise women who are in abusive relationships to stay with their partner and just pray for him.

Another woman stated that her husband uses biblical scripture to prevent her from leaving him. She added that whenever her husband steps over the line and he thinks she might do something about it, he reminds her that God hates divorce, Smith writes.
Smith concludes her articles by writing that while Jesus Christ was here on earth he proclaimed “freedom for the captives”
