The Lagos State government yesterday, October 6, 2014 said it would stop the distribution of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, preventive kits to schools today, October 07, 2014. This is in line with school resumption.
In a bid to contain the spread of Ebola Virus, Governor, Babatunde Fashola last month postponed the resumption date earlier scheduled for September 21.This was due to the appeal by the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, in the state that they would not resume until all public schools are provided with the approved EVD preventive kits.
Vanguard reports that Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye said that larger per cent of the kits have been distributed to the public schools ahead of their resumption for the 2014/2015 academic session.
Furthermore, she disclosed that the state government is bent on doing everything possible to ensure maximum safety to all the pupils, students and the entire school management of all schools as they resume for a new session on the proposed October 08, 2014.
Oladunjoye said: “Yes, larger per cent of the Ebola preventive kits have been provided for the schools. At the moment, final detailing is ongoing at the Blueroof, Agidingbi, Ikeja between the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina and stakeholders at the primary schools’ level in the state. This is where we are concluding the distribution of the Ebola preventive kits to public schools in the state.”
Meanwhile, she also revealed that final stage of the distribution exercise which began on Monday, “will be finalised tomorrow (today).”
However, she said the two days set apert was to enable the state and the teachers do a final assessment on the Ebola Preventive kits they have distributed so far.
