KANO, Nigeria — A disturbing episode unfolded in Kano State on the evening of May 14, 2023, as police arrested a 35-year-old woman, Fatima Salisu, accused of brutally stabbing an eight-year-old girl.
The incident, initially reported by a concerned citizen, has led to swift action from the local authorities.
The Kano State Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, recounted the chilling narrative in a statement shared with Daily Post on Friday, May 19, 2023.
“At approximately 1840hrs (06:40 pm), we received a distress call from a good Samaritan.
The individual reported a loud cry emanating from an uncompleted building located at Kureken Sani in Kumbotso LGA, Kano State,” Kiyawa said.
Upon reaching the site, the concerned citizen encountered a horrific sight.
“He discovered a young girl lying in a pool of her own blood, with a sharp knife lodged in her stomach. There were additional injuries on other parts of her body,” added Kiyawa.
Acting swiftly on the report, law enforcement promptly transported the victim to Mallam Aminu Kano Specialist Hospital, where she was immediately admitted.
In response to this gruesome incident, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, directed a thorough and expedient investigation.
“The Commissioner ordered a prompt manhunt to ensure the perpetrator or perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice as soon as feasible,” Kiyawa stated.
The intensive search ended in the arrest of Salisu on May 18, 2023, in her hideout at Dungulmi Village, Isari District, Dutse LGA, Jigawa State. She confessed to her involvement in the crime soon after her apprehension.
“The suspect is currently under investigation at the Police Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by the Homicide Section.
Upon conclusion of the investigation, she will be brought before the court,” concluded Kiyawa.
