Disu revealed in the statement that the ex-police officer’s son identified as 30-year-old Earnest Young, was dismissed from the Nigeria Police before he took to crime.

It said the dismissed policeman, and his 20-year-old accomplice named Rasheed Tiamiyu were arrested on Eko Bridge around 10 pm on Tuesday, December 1, 2015.

They were subsequently charged to court on Wednesday, December 2, 2015.

The statement said: “They were arrested in possession of manhole covers vandalised and stolen on Eko Bridge.

“The suspects claimed they saw the manhole covers and planned to sell to cart pushers.

“They also claimed that both of them sleep and work as load carriers at Ijora Motor Park.”

The suspects’ action posed a great danger to road users as the uncovered manholes could cause serious accident especially at night.
