Police officials on Monday, June 8, 2015 disclosed that a father has strangled his four young daughters aged between four and seven.
Irshad Ahmed from Pakistan committed the offence in the night of Sunday, June 7, 2015 in the central province of Punjab at Chak Jumra town, around 215 kilometres (135 miles) northwest of Lahore.
Speaking to AFP, a local police official, Ghulam Shabir said, “Irshad Ahmed, a resident of Chak Jumra strangled his four daughters, two sets of twins, late Sunday night.
“The father was on anti-depressants.”
Shabir added that the man’s wife and mother of the deceased had taken two other children to a wedding in a neighbouring town and left the four girls in the care of their father without foreseeing the imminent danger.
She returned the next day only to discover the four girls stone dead in bed while the man took to his heels.
According to the investigating officer, Zaheer Ahmed, rope marks were visible on the neck of the slain girls.
Girl children are often seen as a burden in Pakistan’s conservative patriarchal society.
