Tim Kome Owhefere, the majority leader of the Delta House of Assembly, is dead.
Owhefere, a four-time member of the House, died around 11pm on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, after being hospitalised for about two weeks.
The deceased lawmaker, who represented Isoko North Constituency until his death, hailed from Akiowhe community, in the council area.
While there is yet to be an official statement on his passage, several sources confirmed the sad development on Thursday, January 28, 2021.
But his media aide, Palmer Ogheneyole Nathaniel, posted the development on his Facebook post, drawing several condolence messages.
Owhefere was said to have been on oxygen for a week before his death, fueling speculations that he died of COVID-19.
This suspicion is reportedly causing anxiety among members of the Delta House of Assembly as some colleagues were reported to have visited him at a hospital (name withheld) in Asaba where he was first admitted.
Sheriff Oborevwori, the Delta speaker, recently recovered from COVID-19.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had also contracted and recovered from the virus in the peak of the pandemic last year.
If speculations that Owhefere contracted the disease turn out to be true, then he will become the first major politician in Delta to have died of coronavirus.
