The national headquarters of Kowa Party has called on President Muhammdu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, declare the deadly Fulani Herdsmen as terrorists and give them the treatment given to deadly terrorist group worldwide.
In a statement signed by the national youth chairman of the party, Jude Feranmi, on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, the party said President Buhari cannot fold his hands and watch Nigerians being murdered by Fulani herdsmen, insisting that the silence of President Buhari is giving the group more strength to carry out their deadly acts.
The party said Buhari was voted into power to protect the lives of all Nigerians, therefore the mandate given to him should not be employed to favour a group at the expense of others.
It said setting up committees to look into the issue of the Fulani terrorist group is unnecessary, saying that in itself was a reflection of the inefficiency and the incapacity of the Nigerian police and the other security agencies to protect and defend the people of Nigeria.
The statement condemned the gruesome murder of the Ukpabi Nimbo community in Enugu State, saying Buhari must act now before the situation gets out of hand.
In the release, the party identified states and communities where the people have left pain and suffering behind for the poor community dwellers, giving a statistics of at least 500 persons already massacred across the divide of the South, South East and Middle Belt States of the country.
The statement said, “The newly adopted manslaughter and genocide approach by the nomadic cattle rearers is shocking and heart breaking.
“Incidents of this nature are absolutely avoidable if we actually have a government that learns from past occurrences. These herdsmen rated the third deadliest terrorist groups have attacked Nigerians and continue to do so at will.
“The frequency of the attacks by these terrorists masquerading as herdsmen has continued to increase with an impunity that must be checked.
“There is nothing more disheartening than reading news about selfless and defenseless Nigerians losing their lives due to a reluctant and lackadaisical approach from the government they voted for massively in an election where security was a major decider.”
While it sent condolence to the people of Enugu State, particularly the community of Ukpabi Nimbo and their relations, the party warned Buhari to wake up to the issue so as to forestall incidence that could plunge the country into chaos.
