A retired Customs officer has been killed after an altercation with a commercial tricycle rider, Akeem Adeoye, who allegedly pushed him into the path of a speeding truck.
It was learnt that the deceased was on his way to collect his pension after 35 years in service when his vehicle had an accident with the tricycle, popularly called Keke NAPEP, at Marwa Road, Ijegun area of Lagos.
The incident happened on January 20, 2014, around 10am according to accounts. The vehicle of 50-year-old deceased, Nurudeen Yekeen, was involved in an accident with a Keke NAPEP belonging to Adeoye.
The two men traded heated words with each other, during which the deceased drew his belt to strike Adeoye. In defence, Adeoye pushed him into the path of a truck, which crushed him to death.
Adeoye, together with the truck’s driver, have been arraigned before an Ebute-meta Magistrate Court
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector George Nwosu, the offence is punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant was reportedly granted bail and the case adjourned till March 13, 2014.
