CALABAR, Nigeria – The Cross River chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has announced its plans to adopt the “Monkey Work, Monkey Chop” mantra to ensure that party members who contributed to the success of the party in the 2023 general elections are rewarded through appointments and empowerment.
The phrase “Monkey Work, Monkey Chop” is a colloquial expression that means those who worked should reap the benefits of their labor.
In a press statement on Monday, July 3, 2023, titled “Ward Nomination for Appointments and Empowerment,” the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Cross River, Mr. Erasmus Ekpang, revealed that the strategy is aimed at rewarding those who actively and sincerely worked for the party’s victory.
The press statement also specified that this approach will be applied at local, state, and federal levels.
In an effort to ensure inclusivity and representation, the statement directed each ward to submit 20 names, which must include at least 10 females, and must also be sensitive to the geopolitical spread across polling units.
Party ward executives, ward leaders, and major stakeholders are directed to meet at ward levels throughout the state on Sunday, July 2, 2023, to select the names from each ward and submit them to the State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba, on the following day.
The statement reads in part: “Only persons who worked sincerely for the victory of the party in the Presidential, Senatorial, House of Representatives, Governorship and State Assembly elections with evidence of their results will be finally considered by the Party in consonance with the Party’s ‘Monkey work, Monkey chop’ mantra.”
The statement further encourages the nomination of youths, students, farmers, businessmen, and women who have demonstrated political capital and contributed to the party’s victory.
Those who may not meet the literacy requirements for appointments may be considered for empowerment programs.
As part of the nomination process, nominees are required to submit their Curriculum Vitae, voter’s card, membership slip, and evidence of results from the last election.
This move by the APC in Cross River is seen as a measure to strengthen party loyalty and ensure that those who have been instrumental in the party’s success are duly recognized and rewarded.
