A Tuscaloosa, AL man is facing charges of domestic violence this week after deciding to pour hot grease all over his girlfriend while she was sleeping. The couple had gotten into an argument earlier that night about the state of their relationship, according to witnesses that were in the home at the time of the fight.

The 39-year-old victim said that she saw her boyfriend, 40-year-old Anthony Dwayne McGraw, standing over her when she woke up to hot grease being poured over her. The severely injured woman called police, but McGraw fled by the time officers arrived on the scene. The incident happened around 4 a.m. on April 6th. Lieutenant Kip Hart said that McGraw was cooking while the victim was sleeping on the couch and decided that the grease would be the way that he was going to hurt her.
The woman survived the attack but she had severe burns on her arms and on her face that will most likely require cosmetic surgery. She has a long recovery ahead of her and is currently in a burn unit at UAB Hospital. There were children in the home at the time of the attack. The couple has one child together who is 10 years old. McGraw was arrested on Monday night around 7 p.m. at a different home that was located in Kaulton Park. He is being held currently in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $60,000 bond. A charge of first degree domestic assault is considered a Class B Felony in Alabama and carries a penalty of two to twenty years in prison and a possible fine of up to $30,000.
