A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Makurdi on Wednesday ordered that a businessman, Mohammed Danladi, who allegedly burnt down a hospital be remanded in a correctional centre.
The police charged Danladi with criminal conspiracy, mischief by fire and armed robbery.
Chief Magistrate Vincent Kor, however did not take the plea of Danladi for want in jurisdiction.
Kor ordered the police to return the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The chief magistrate adjourned the matter untill July 30, for further mention.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Friday Kanshio told the court that Dr Joseph Ikwulono of the New Concept Clinic, Ugbokpo through a written petition dated March 10, reported the matter at the Benue Police Command, Makurdi.
The police alleged that Danladi also attacked the doctor in his residence on June 7, 2019, in company of three others while armed with guns, cutlass and sticks and they injured him on his right finger.
The prosecution also said Danladi and his accomplices stole a laptop worth N450, 000 and other valuable items.
He said that on March 3, one of Danladi’s accomplices, Babangida Paul was arrested pursuant to the bench warrant issued by the High Court, Makurdi and was later arraigned for armed robbery.
The offence, he said , is punishable under Sections 97 and 338 of the Penal Code Laws of Benue, 2004 and Section 1(1) (2) and 6 of the Robbery and Firearms Act, 2004.
