BAUCHI – An Upper Shariah Court has discharged and acquitted two suspects, Usman Sabo and Hafizu Abubakar, who were arraigned after being accused of having a sexual relationship.
The presiding judge, Aliyu Elyaqub, made this ruling on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 reportedly saying that the suspects were discharged due to the inability of the prosecution to prove its case.
According to eyewitness accounts, the judge said the prosecution did not present a witness to testify that he actually saw the accused committing the act and the accused pleaded not guilty to the crime.
The two accused persons were said to have expressed joy and thanked Almighty Allah for the ruling.
The Commissioner of Bauchi State Hisbah, Alhaji Jibrin Danlami Hassan, reportedly said the commission is doing its best to sanitize the society and to ensure that everyone gets justice. He also said that the commission will meet to study the judgement.
