Here’s the heartwarming story of a love that never dies.
A divorced couple are planning to remarry after getting engaged over 43 years since they split.
Louis Demetriades met Renate Stumpf in Germany in 1959 and they got married. The marriage ended 12 years later, and until December 2014, they had not spoken in 43 years.
After their divorce, they got married to different people, but both spouses have since died.
On Saturday, February 14, 2015, Demetriades surprised Stumpf in Fort Smith, Arkansas, at the Walmart where she works for a special Valentine’s Day reunion with a sign that read, “Happy Valentine’s Day! Will you marry me?”
Her first response to the proposal was a shocked, “No,” but she then said, “Yes, but not today.”
When speaking to reporters, Stumpf revealed that they have made no plans for a ceremony just yet. “There’s no rush at my age. God put us together again, and it couldn’t be any other way after all these years.”
“When we saw each other again last December, we knew right then we still loved each other for sure,”
“That love has never passed.
“Forty-three years is a long time, so I wasn’t sure at first. But I will marry him though because he’s changed for the better, I’ve come to realize,” she added.
