A couple (pictured above), charged with second-degree murder have been sentenced to jail for 35-years on Monday, December 8, 2014 for forcing a 5-year old to drink so much soda her brain swelled, leading to her death.
Mirror UK reports that Randall and Mary Vaughn were found guilty of forcing their 5-year daughter and stepdaughter respectively – Alexa Linboom – to drink half a gallon of soda as punishment for drinking a soda they said was reserved for adults.
The child was said to have screamed out of pain and fell unconscious, and the pair astonishingly didn’t take her to a hospital until a few hours later. She died two days later.
District Attorney General Dan Armstrong said: “He’s in his early 40s and she’s in her 50s, so I don’t think either one of them will ever get out. We believe it’s an effective life sentence.”
