A member of the National Youth service Corps, NYSC, Mr Excellent Okpako Akevwighome, 29, slumped and died while leading a choir ministration during a vigil in his church, Christ Gospel Church, in Edjeketa community, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased who studied Accountancy at the Anwai campus of Delta State University was posted to Anambra State for the mandatory national service.
According to Vanguard, Akevwighome was said to have browsed with his handset for about an hour on the eve of his death before he went to the church where he was said to be a choir master.
It was learnt that he slumped midway into the vigil while leading the choristers in a song and people ignored him thinking he was under the influence of the Holy Spirit.
However, moments later, at exactly 11:30pm, after Akevwighome failed to get up, some of the choristers rushed to help him up only to realise he was already dead.
Reacting to the incident, the Pastor Peter Akpovwera of the church said: “The brother was a faithful worshipper but lost his life to the cold hands of death even in the church.”
