The US Consulate to Nigeria has announced that they have stopped issuing non-immigrant visas after a travel ban was placed on the US over coronavirus.
The Federal Government of Nigeria in a statement on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, signed by the secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha, named the US among other 12 countries that would be restricted from visiting the country till the pandemic phases out.
The statement was released hours after five new cases of Coronavirus were reported in the country and the patients were reportedly from the US and UK.
Other countries affected by the ban include China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Japan, France, Germany, Norway, The United States of America, The United Kingdom, Netherlands and Switzerland.
Reacting in a statement on Twitter, the United States Consulate in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria said they have canceled all non-immigrant visas till further notice.

“As of March 18, US Embassy Abuja & Consulate Lagos are canceling routine nonimmigrant visa appointments. We will resume routine visa services as soon as possible. The MRV fee is valid and may be used for a visa application within 1 year of the date of payment,” the statement read.
