Ngozi Uzodike, a lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has been delivered of septuplets – two boys and five girls.

Ngozi, who works at the Department of Business Administration, delivered the babies at Obijackson Women and Children Hospital, Okija, on Sunday, January 8, 2023.

Although one of the girls did not make it alive, the family was charged N19 million by the hospital.

Ngozi lamented that she had not been paid salaries since she started working at the institution in December 2020.

Her husband, Mr. Celestine Uzodike, confirmed to journalists on Wednesday that his wife, was properly engaged as a lecturer at the institution, but unfortunately, had not been paid since.

He lamented that his wife had never earned a kobo as salary, even after she had been promoted from Assistant Lecturer to Lecturer II.

He, however, appealed to the Federal Government to pay the two years salary arrears owed to the new mother and also come to their aid.

He said they aren’t able to foot the hospital bill and take care of the surviving two boys and four girls, alone.

Lagos Gov’t Shuts Down Hospital After Pregnant Woman Dies During Childbirth Due To Negligence

Operations at Medville Global Health Center have been temporarily shut down by Lagos State government.

Abiola Idowu, the executive secretary of the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency, HEFAMAA, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.

Idowu asserted that the preliminary investigations carried out by the team revealed that the hospital was not registered with HEFAMAA, and that it had inadequate personnel.

The decision to shut the facility, located at Ago Palace Way in the Okota axis of the state, followed an investigation by the agency after one Triplem Mchaty accused the hospital of incompetence resulting in his wife’s death.

SaharaReporters had on Monday reported that Mchaty raised the alarm about his wife who died from childbirth complications at the hospital.

The man had further alleged that his wife died as a result of negligence on the part of medical practitioners at Medville Global Health Center in Lagos State.

In a Twitter thread on Sunday, the aggrieved man said the hospital induced his wife to speed up labour but 10 hours after that, she had yet to birth the child.

According to him, after they performed series of activities on his wife, the 28-year-old lady died while the baby was saved. Meanwhile, he said the baby was currently in the Intensive Care Unit of another hospital as he insisted that his wife died as a result of the incompetence of the doctors.

However, Solanke Koya, chairman of HEFAMAA board, has ordered a full-scale investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the death of Mchaty’s wife.

The agency said it took the “crucial decision” to shut the facility “in furtherance of public protection pending the final outcome of the ongoing investigations.”
