[pull_quote_center]A remarkable testimony of how a strip club was turned into a church.[/pull_quote_center]
“We Are Praying for You!” That’s the message Aaron Bekkela received from a stripper at A Hunt Club, the club he worked at in Fort Collins, Colorado some 20 years ago. Needless to say, Aaron did not expect to hear this from a stripper, reports Steve Rees.
In his 20’s at the time, Aaron enjoyed hunting trips and his freedom. He recalls the odors of the club: cigarettes, alcohol and perfume permeated his entire being.
His father died in 2009 so Aaron and his brothers began running the club. Aaron received many signs which were calling him to church: one of his brothers presented him with a bible; and a flyer from a church seeking new members ended up in his hand.
Aaron decided to attend a local church – amazingly he was met by love and warmth, even though the church knew of his affiliation with the strip club. This gave Aaron a positive outlook about the church.
Although Aaron repented for his association with the strip club, his past was one of disgrace he admits. However, today at 43, Aaron thanks his mother for her many prayers that contributed to his conversion. He was a believer!
Leaving his past behind, Aaron relinquished sole ownership of the club to his brother – however, legally he still owned the club. After he was baptized, he wanted to relinquish all ties with the club. So he decided to sell the club.
Aaron ran into a pastor Dary Northrop he had heard of years ago – she was willing to buy the place of worship. She and Pastor Rob Cowles were convinced to buy the property. Aaron was so genuine, and sincere explains, Dary Northrop. SOLD!
They decided to build a church – the Genesis Project on the property, scheduled to open in 2014. Pastor Cowles believes the church represents a new birth for congregants.
Several ministries gave love offerings in support of the church project. The church will provide help for physical and emotional needs to individuals, and a children’s ministry.
Seating 200 worshippers, a coffee shop, and a kitchen for cooks to train those with an interest in culinary arts are slated for the new church. The kitchen will also be used to feed the hungry.
Aaron’s life has come full circle – completing an internship and about to graduate with a Master’s degree in Biblical counseling. Nothing is too hard for God!
