Spirit and Life Devotional is a daily publication by Pastor Chinaemerem Ibezim, senior pastor of Able Ministers Chapel, a church based in Calabar, Cross River State.
“My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.” Proverbs 1:10 NKJV
The Hebrew word for sinners used in the scripture is ‘peccatores’, “those who sin knowingly, habitually, willfully and maliciously, who are given over entirely to iniquity, and who persuade others to follow their wicked example.”
Make no mistakes about it, sin/ wrongdoing is not always boring and unexciting; and don’t think that there’s nothing to benefit from a sinful or wrong act. For it to be enticing, it means it’s appealing and attractive, either to the mind or to one of the physical senses. There’s pleasure to be gained, money to be made, power, fulfilment, even relief, though temporal. You know, like telling lies to be “free”; paying a bribe to get off the hook; stealing to enrich or lessen the financial burden on yourself; joining that occultic group in order to receive favours and belong; and so on.
You’ve got to be a man of convictions; a disciplined and principled man/ woman. Others may be doing it but you stick to your guns and insist on doing only what’s right, especially in the eyes of God. That’s important because there are different definitions of what’s right today! Remember, “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” Amen.
