Must read

NAN – The Chief Judge of Nasarawa, Justice Suleiman Dikko, on Monday, June 1, 2015 ordered the release of 16 inmates of the Federal Prison, Lafia, who were awaiting trial.

Dikko granted the pardon as part of his four-day visit to prisons across the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 12 of the inmates received out right pardon while four others were granted bail on self recognition.

Those who got outright pardon were Mohammed Saleh, Mamman Adamu, David Danjuma, Abdullahi Inusa, Adamu Zakari and Useni Saidu.

Others were Ruwa Uamaru, Mustapha Obeka, Jibrin Ismalia, Emmanuel Rabo, Sunday James and Nathaniel Abi.

Musa Halidu, Yakubu Musa, Yusuf Haruna and Aliyu Yusuf were, on the other hand, released on bail based on self recognition.

The chief judge said that the exercise was part of efforts aimed at decongesting prisons in the state and to ensure justice was done to inmates who might have been wrongly detained.

He advised those released to desist from committing any crime that would make them return to the prison.
