Schalke 04 defence player, Benedict Howedes, has declared that Real Madrid are of the same pedigree with his team, and as such remain as “beatable” as any other UCL team.
Schalke 04 was knocked out by Real Madrid during the 2013/2014 Champions League game with a 9-2 aggregate defeat at the same stage last season, but Howedes is bent on his determination to prove that his side will not be defeated the second time.
“We know how we lost badly last year. Real is one of the best teams in the world. But even these teams are beatable,” he said after the draw. “We will do our best to challenge the holders.” He said
Howdes team-mate, Joel Matip also believes that his side can defeat the La Liga top tean as he added: “Real are an awesome team. Those are two matches over 90 minutes and, in football, anything can happen. We are looking forward to it and we want to show that we learned from last year.”
According to Schalke striker, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, he believes that the fixture against Real is the work of fate and another chance to prove that his side can even the score.
“Faith wanted Schalke and Real Madrid to meet again, personally, I am really looking forward to it, since they are one of the best teams in the world and I did not play against them last year. I think we will do better than last year.” He said.
