About SECAM
SECAM was established as a result of the decision by African Bishops during the Second Vatican Council (1962–1965) to create a unified platform for addressing issues concerning the Church in Africa.
Officially launched in Kampala, Uganda, during Pope Paul VI’s visit in 1969, SECAM has since been a leading voice for the African Catholic Church.
Headquartered in Accra, Ghana, SECAM operates in three official languages — English, French, and Portuguese — and functions through eight regional episcopal conferences, which collectively encompass national episcopal conferences across Africa.
