WUDIL, Nigeria – A lecturer with the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil in Kano State, Dr. Goddy Igbaekemen, has petitioned the Police Service Commission, PSC, over alleged mutilation and removal of documents from his official records, an act purported to frustrate his promotion.
In a petition which was made available to journalists on Sunday, July 9, 2023, signed by his counsel, Thomas Shachia, Dr Igbaekemen stated that this was a ploy to deny him a promotion approved by the academy in 2015.
He claimed that the letter approving the promotion was deliberately mutilated and removed from his official record, and subsequently concealed.
Despite his numerous efforts to retrieve the document, including an official letter to the registrar of the academy, the document remains inaccessible.
The lecturer alleged that his challenges began in 2016 with his “unlawful disengagement” from service, only to be reinstated following the intervention of the National Assembly’s Committee on Petitions, which found his termination unlawful.
Regardless of the National Assembly’s resolution, Dr. Igbaekemen maintained that he has since been denied all promotions.
He asserted that he is “eminently qualified to be promoted and conferred with the status of a professor.”
However, despite his qualifications, the academy has yet to promote him or pay his necessary arrears.
Dr Igbaekemen is now calling on the Chairman of the PSC, Dr. Solomon Arase, to intervene.
He requested that the commandant and management of the academy release his promotion letter, position him as a professor, and pay all his accrued entitlements.
Furthermore, he appealed to the PSC chairman to direct the Inspector General of Police to launch an investigation into his allegations.
