The groundbreaking ceremony for an ultra-modern cancer treatment centre, an event that marks a turning point in the healthcare system in Nigeria, took place at Epe in Lagos State on Saturday, June 24, 2017.
Nostra Cancer Foundation, the brainchild of Frank West, a cancer survivor, held the ceremony in which Reverend Iyke Osuji, the resident pastor of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) in Festac Town presided.
Mr. West testified on how he overcame nasopharyngeal cancer and lived to tell his story. He was diagnosed in in South Africa in April 2006 and has been cancer free since.
“Nigeria which is the most populous nation in Africa with close to 200 million people can only boast of 7 obsolete radiotherapy machines with only two functioning,” West lamented. “The funds raised for this treatment centre, here will be used to build a world class cancer specialist hospital in Nigeria, West Africa.”
Also Dr. Ofonime Udoh, the secretary of Nostra Cancer Foundation’s board of trustees spoke at the event.
