The security pact between Nigeria and Cameroun has begun yielding results: the Camerounian soldiers clashed with the insurgents during which a Cameroonian soldier and a number of militants were wounded in the half-hour exchange of gunfire.
The militants reportedly fled back to Nigeria following the cross-border raid,” the forces added.
It was the second such strike by Boko Haram in the region over the past few days. On July 8, militants attacked a border post in the town of Zina and took away vehicles, guns and ammunition.
In May, Cameroon declared war on Boko Haram in response to atrocities committed by the group.
The national security adviser, Sambo Dasuki, on Wednesday in Abuja said Nigeria respects the sovereignty of its neighbours and had no `territorial ambition” over the disputed Bakassi Peninsula with Cameroon.
Dasuki spoke at the opening of the Nigeria/Cameroon Trans-Border Security Committee holding from July 8-11. “I wish to expressly say that Nigeria does not have any territorial ambition; the resolution on the Bakassi Penisula issue is a clear indication to this.’’
On his part, the head of the Cameroon delegation, Mr Rene Sadi , minister of territorial administration and decentralization, said that the meeting would assist both countries to urgently take measures to wipe out criminalities from the borders.
