Valentine Ozigbo, a leading PDP gubernatorial aspirant in Anambra State, has been lauded for his pioneering role in the Reformed Amesi Vigilante Group’s launch a group entrusted with the responsibility of providing adequate security in Amesi.
The commendation occurred on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the vigilante group’s launch in Mr Ozigbo’s hometown, Amesi, a town in Aguata Local Government Area, Anambra State.
In his address at the event, the President General of Amesi Improvement Union (AIU), Honourable Leonard Muorah recalled when he intimated Mr Ozigbo with the idea of reforming the Amesi vigilante group.
In his words, Mr Ozigbo “kick-started the support for a formidable vigilante outfit given the disturbing incidences of burglary and vandalization across the establishment and assets of the community”.
Hon. Muorah went on to thank Mr Ozigbo for always being at the forefront of every positive innovation in Amesi, urging other illustrious sons of the town to follow suit.
Also speaking at the event, Prince Greg Ezechukwu, the coordinator of “Save-Our-Soul” Fundraising, thanked Ozigbo and other sons and daughters of Amesi for their support of the actualization of feeding eight hundred (800) residents of Amesi community.
Prince Ezechukwu remarked that “after we had fed our people, the urge to provide adequate security to the community by this administration gained ascendancy and became indispensably palpable.”
Afterwards, he expressed gratitude to the Catholic Bishop of Ekwulobia Diocese, The Most Reverend Peter Okpalaeke, Mr Valentine Ozigbo, Ichie Sunday Ezeobiora, Mr Robert Umeozulu, and others for their full support to the project.
The event brought together notable and illustrious sons and daughters of Amesi, who came to take part in the historic inauguration and transition to a new era termed ‘the Amesi of our dream’. The Governor of Anambra State was represented at the event by Chief Rogenny Ezeonwuka (Ogilisi Igbo), the Chairman of the Welfare Committee of Anambra Vigilante Group. Many other dignitaries and top security personnel were present.
Mr Ozigbo is the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, a position he stepped down from to focus on the next phase of his life that he has dedicated to public service.
