A Bureau de Change operator, Abdulahi Mubarak, on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defaulting to convert 30,000 dollars belonging to one Miss Bukola Olaoye to naira .
The 47-year-old accused is facing a three-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence and stealing. Mubarak, who resides at Abule Egba area of Lagos State , however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP Eranus Nnamonu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb.4, at the complainant’s No. 28, Samson St., Oke-Odo Pleasure, Abule Egba residence.
Nnamonu told the court that one Mrs Temitope Kalejaiye had invited the accused to change the sum of 30,000 dollars belonging to Olaoye to naira.
“ Mubarak, in company of some others still at large, collected the dollars with a promise to pay its naira equivalent which amounted to N6, 360, 000.
“The accused and his gang failed to return the dollars or pay the naira equivalent to Olaoye,’’ Nnamonu said.
The offences, according to Nnamonu, contravene Sections 278, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Laws of Laws State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mrs Abimbola Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N5million with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to July 9 for hearing.
