President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, ordered security agencies to find perpetrators of Rivers and Kaduna killings.
On January 1, 2018, scores of people were killed in Omoku, Rivers while Gambo Makama, a traditional ruler, and his wife were killed in Sango local government area of Kaduna.
In a statement, Garba Shehu, senior special assistant to the president on media, quoted Buhari as saying that Nigerians must learn to live in peace.
The president described the incidents as “reprehensible and unacceptable”.
“I have always maintained that nothing justifies the taking of the life of an innocent person,” he said,
“People in our communities must learn to live peacefully.”
Buhari appealed to the communities affected not to embark on reprisal attacks, but allow the security agencies to carry out comprehensive investigations to properly punish the culprits.
He commiserated with the families of the victims and wished those who sustained fast recovery.
