President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 appointed Prof. Mahmood Yakubu as the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Five other persons were named new National Commissioners for the electoral body following Buhari’s approval.
The development was made known to State House correspondents by Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State after the first meeting of the Council of State.
Among the new national commissioners were Mrs. Amina Zakari, representing the North-West.
Zakari was made the Acting National Chairman of the commission following the retirement of former Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega in June, 2015.
The four other commissioners include: Dr. Anthonia Okoosi-Simbine, North Central, Alhaji Baba Shettima Arfo (North-East); Dr. Mohammed Mustafa Lecky (South-South) and Mr. Soyebi Adedeji Solomon (South-West).
