LAGOS, Nigeria — As President Muhammadu Buhari’s term in office comes to a close, the Presidency has defended his administration’s inability to complete several key projects before the May 29 handover.
Buhari’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, issued a statement on Thursday, May 4, 2023, highlighting the President’s accomplishments and reassuring the public that many projects are nearing completion.
Adesina praised President Buhari’s performance, stating, “The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is coming. The Second Niger Bridge and many others are coming before the administration touches down on May 29, 2023. No single government finishes all the jobs that need to be done in a country. Not anywhere in the world.”
He emphasized that the President has done his best and his contributions will leave a lasting impact on Nigeria. “President Buhari has done his honest bit. He has succeeded well. And his footprints will be indelible on the sands of time,” Adesina wrote.
President Buhari is set to hand over power to President-elect Bola Tinubu in just a few weeks. The unfinished projects have been a point of contention for some critics, who argue that the current administration has not done enough to improve the nation’s infrastructure. However, the Presidency’s statement underscores the progress made and the efforts to complete projects before Buhari leaves office.
As Nigeria prepares for this transition of power, many eyes will be on the incoming administration to see how it addresses the ongoing infrastructure projects and other pressing issues facing the nation.
