A final student of Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State, identified as Ifunanya Igwebuike had called off her wedding as the guests were waiting in church for the wedding to commence on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at St Patrick Catholic Church, Umuchu in Aguata Local government, Anambra State.
After waiting for so long, Igwebuike decided to send a message to the Parish Priest, Rev. Father Lawrence Maduagwu, informing him that she could no longer continue with the already scheduled wedding with Ekene Uzoigwe.
According to PM News, the bride alleged that she could not stoop so low to marry a mere school drop out being that she is a graduate.
The guests who could not believe the shocking story finally left the wedding venue amidst murmurings and gossips.
Narrating the incident, Uzoigwe who is a businessman at Abakaliki, Ebonyi state’s capital said he met Igwebuike at their home town, Umuchu, where he proposed and sent her to school after an agreement that they would get married when she enters her final year.
He further explained that he sponsored her throigh her education after they reached a concensus that they would tie the knot when she got to her final year.
Uzoigwe even disclosed that he had already paid her bride price and she was part of the whole wedding plan and he even gave her parents N160,000 to prepare for the wedding, besides other arrangements and expenses incurred on the wedding and reception.
He was shocked and disappointed that she could not tell him of her plans until the whole arrangement was concluded and people gathered to celebrate with them.
He said, “If she had informed me, I would not have made arrangements. We had already cooked food and bought drinks for the wedding.”
According to him, he contacted his parents after the news was broken to him and they replied that they would not force her to get married to him, adding that he should come and pick up his money from them sor proper dissolution of the wedding.
He also disclosed that he made sure she never lacked money while she was in school.
