A police inspector assigned to the convoy of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has died in motor accident while on an official trip in Abuja on Friday, March 13, 2020.
In an e-mailed statement to The Trent, signed by Laolu Akande, the spokesperson for the vice president, it was revealed that the dead policeman is Ali Gomina and he was aged 45.
Vice President Osinbajo cut short his scheduled trip after the motor accident. The statement did not reveal where the vice president was going.
“With grief in our hearts, we announce the death of one of the police escort riders on the Vice President’s convoy, Inspector Ali Gomina, aged 45, who was involved in a road accident while on official duty today,” the brief statement read.
“The accident occurred on the road to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The Vice President, who is greatly saddened by this occurrence, has aborted the scheduled trip.
“The Vice President described Gomina as a diligent, hardworking and serious-minded officer who will be greatly missed by the team. He is survived by his wife, children and relatives.”
The vice president prayed eternal rest for Gomina’s soul.
Professor Osinbajo has escaped death twice in five years when his helicopters crashed. The lastest was during the election season in 2019 in Kogi State.
